Sketch first your ideas as mock up, in steps in buying a ticket

As always sketching out the interface ideas are most important when working on a project

Here I start by adding some persona information, thinking of the everyday people that might use the Metro North line I've a few to fuel my ideas.

Saturday, March 2, 2013

I took some researching on the route that the Metro North was taking, and added my Digital image of the routes and what each station had to offer to  everyday passengers, here we can see the length time distance from each station staring from Stephens Green and ending at last stop Estuary. The route map was constructed in photoshop along with the logo for Metro North.

Now the fun begins, I need to go back from where I started and construct a real live navigational chart for the steps of buying a ticket from our brand new kiosk,  So out of photoshop I go and straight into microsoft word.

Now lets move on to our last step, I spent quite a bit of time choosing the colour scheme for our shiny new kiosk I needed harmony, nothing to heavy on the user I have all screen shots including logo here on this page which will be used as our final project

The typeface used for this project had to be legible I used Myriad pro bold with  a bevel and  emboss with a  drop shadows to give it a more modern and stand out look and feel using Adobe software.

Its Feburary, every time I write these posts, I mention the month of year I can't belive how quick time is flying by, soon my study time at S.C.D will be another mark on life experiance card, and will come to a close in May.

Anyhow its spring, and the time for creativity and inspiration fills the mind, I have keen interest in photography, and wanted to practice my illustrator skills before the rust started to settle.

Here using adobe illustrator is a composition using the tools provided and here we go!

BRIEF 12 INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN

In this weeks class we were asked to define how to cook an egg or how one would tie a shoelace using illustration software or photography,

I decided to take out my digital camera and take snap shots at the different stages of both,
its not as easy as one would think, its takes a while to get the right shot.to get the job just righ....ttttt

So here how you would tie a lace this is a slight bit more difficult as you need someone willing to help you out while you take the photos. TIP. (be patient it takes time but you can manage)

       Hi all,

So Christmas is not long gone from us all the hype, is quickly over, and its time to get back on track with some new fresh ideas and projects to get the  year off to a good start.

For the first two weeks in January we are going to have a look at creating some postcard design for the blog page, I have taken on on, one idea and will try to implement that idea into three different postcards, these type of postcards would be generally seen in pubs, restaurants, and cafe areas.

The postcards will for drinkaware.ie, which is a company in Ireland, showing facts and statistics of alcohol consumption.

                             2012 OVERALL REVIEW

 SUMMARY

Coming back to graphic design for the second year was interesting to see what new challenges  we would be learning, last years class was very interesting with field trips out to photography exhibitions, and print museums.

This has giving great foundation, for the second year as you only notice when gining an assignment how to approach it in the correct manner, i.e typefaces, correct alignment, font colour, spacing etc.

As for the graphic, what photo should be used , how do the colours blend, is the contrast going to work between different layers that might be used in a composition.

In the second year of graphic design I found myself, making quicker decisions for projects such as logos, billboard art, typeface art, and advertising campaigns, I was able to implement much stronger
graphic, make better blends in Adobe photoshop, and Illustrator, in fact I felt much more comfortable using the software and was very satisfied with some of the results that I personally achieved, of course there is still a while to go before the course ends and there s plenty of room for improvement which I look forward to in 2013...........

BRIEF 9 ADVERTISEMENT LAYOUT

For this exercise I had to design a sensitive or personal product,  the choices were diarrhea tablets, Hair restorer, poopa scoopa, jock straps, condoms, or padded bra. I hope its obvious what I have chosen and the magazine I choose for this advertisement was Easy Health, its an Irish magazine published in Dalkey, Co Dublin.

After first sketching up many ideas, I looked for some photographs that would suit and came across three photo,s in google images the first was the muddy shoes, this was found under mud floods, the second image was the dry ground (cracked earth), the third image was stand alone flower, the fourth the tablet which is my own image all are of high resolution,
The image of the cracked ground was set to black and white in Adobe photoshop, a mask had been used for the soiled shoes, with blends of opacity around the shoes for to mix with the ground area.

The flower gives hope to the overall message, as well as advertising the fact that plant extracts are used in the product, the tablet is then cracked open and its contents are made to look as if plant and tablet are of same substance.

The font name for product was used  since it had a plant like form and colour was carefully chosen.

  1.  Font:         Tempus Sans ITC, regular 60pt
  2. colour        #77bf8d
The font used for the advertising text had to be clear and strong  I choose Frank Ruehl 36point with a bevel & emboss with stroke weight of 10 points...
